For this final we were not at school to actually make it so I just had to design the parts I would have used. We need to "use" three different machines to design a clock. I wanted to make a clock themed after the Seahawks.
Part One
For the first part of the clock I wanted to use some wood and cut out a design in illustrator. The design was relitively simple I used some clipart of a bird and had it holding a circle that will be the clock. I also want to engrave the Seahawks logo in the middle of the clock part. The laser cuts and engraves so it is perfect for this base of the clock. It would also be relitively big and the laser has a large work area. Below is my illustrator design.
Part Two
For the secong part I needed the numbers on the clock I thought that using the vinyal cutter would be best so I could make decals of the numbers to stick on the clock. I alternated colors so the odd numbers were green and the even were blue because these are the Seahawks colors. To make this file in illustrator I simply typed out numbers and changed their fill color.
Final Part
I had trouble thinking of what to do for this part. I knew I wanted to use the 3-D printer but didn't know what to design. I settled on a 3-D 12 because Seahawks fans are called the twelves. I decided to put On the bird to give the design depth and also make it look like the bird was wearing a jersey number. This could have been done other ways but this was a way to utilize another machine.
How I would manage my time in the lab
If we had been at school I would have started by making the laser file and try to get on the laser right away because there is only one. If I couldn't get on the laser I would create the next file which would probably be the 3-D print I would get that on the machine and start my vinyal. I would cut out the vinyl and hopefully somewhere in that time get on the laser. I would hope to have at least half a class period to assemble by putting the numbers on and the 3-D print part on.
